My name is Pam White and I have been quilting for 35 years. I have been married for 37 years to my husband Bill and have 2 children, Katy and Nancy. I have a passion for sewing and especially quilting.
When we moved to Pembroke, MA from Virginia in 2014, we built our house that included the perfect sewing room. I create using my Bernina 8770 Tula Pink special Quilters Edition sewing machine. The embroidery attachment allows me to add personalization to everything I make. For quilting, I have a Handi Quilter HQ 18 Avante with tablet for computerized as well as free motion quilting.
Throughout the years I have tried many different techniques and types of quilts. I heard about t shirt quilts (quilts that you create out of t shirts) when my 2 girls were very young. I saved some of their t shirts from the time they were in Kindergarten. They soon found my stash and every time they outgrew a t shirt, they would give it to me to include in their quilt.
As a graduation gift I created one of my first t shirt quilts for my oldest daughter, Katy. Initially I was going to surprise her and present it to her on her graduation from high school. But, I let Katy choose the shirts she wanted to include in the quilt and I am glad I did. Katy chose shirts that I didn’t think she wanted and even asked if she could buy some to add to the quilt. She had a tough time choosing so ended up with a double sized quilt (I wouldn’t recommend it…too heavy). My younger daughter, Nancy also had me make her a double sized quilt. The 30 t shirts that make up the quilts have extra special meaning to them.
I like to create quilts and can be found looking through quilting websites where I will find a pattern that I feel will challenge me, or one that I just have to make. I try and use my scraps to make smaller quilts and wall hangings. Generally though, I just love to make quilts that make the customers happy. I love the “Oh wow”, or the “I love it” comments when I finally present a completed quilt to its owner. That to me is what it is all about.
Each year I make quilts that I donate to organizations to raffle off as a fundraiser. Recipients of my quilts include, Duxbury Free Library, Hanson Library, Lydia Drake Library and The Elks of Irvine California. During the pandemic I made over 1,500 masks that I donated to various organizations, family and friends. I love to share my passion for sewing and quilting.
